Calling It

A lot of projects fail to properly take off, and this appears to be one of them.

Unfortunately, the extended deadline has passed and the only article I've received is the below one from Matt Pennington. There were a lot of positive responses for the idea but no actual writing was done.

I'll leave the blog and the e-mail active, feel free to throw any articles towards it that you want and, who knows, I may be able to resurrect it in the future.

If you're interested in other things I may do then check out my blog at: http://blog.theuncommon.co.uk or my main site at http://www.theuncommon.co.uk (under construction).

Profound Decisions

A friend once said that when live roleplayers are frothing in the pub after an LRP game, they don't froth about the game, they froth about the cool things they did. Profound Decisions has been running games since 2004 striving to give all our players as many of those moments as possible. Our games are run by a large team of volunteers drawn from some of the very best people in the hobby. As a company our first goal is to ensure that our crew enjoy our events. We know that when our crew are enjoying themselves they will produce the most incredible games for our players to enjoy.
Maelstrom is a game of colonization and discovery. A path has opened through the fiery Maelstrom allowing the great powers of the Known World to colonize the continent that lies on the other side. A scramble for power has begun as all seek to explore this new realm and discover the mysteries of the new technology and magic that it offers to those who can command it.
The world of the Maelstrom is populated by rich Trading Houses and powerful Churches as well as the great nations of the Known World. You can choose to play a representative of any of these powers or reject their authority and play a pirate, freebooter or even one of the strange natives of this New World. Maelstrom's detailed rules allow you to play any one of a dozen races even including dragons. The campaign is supported by an extensive downtime system that allows you to control your characters actions between events allowing your character to pursue their goals and gain new skills and abilities.
Odyssey is a game of politics and epic battles. Five years ago, Alexander the Great, mightiest conqueror in history, was defeated in battle when he challenged the gods themselves. Now the gods have decreed that all conflict will take place at the annual, where champions battle in the arena while others scheme to control the world.
The five nations of the Odyssey world are Carthage, Egypt, Greece, Persia and Rome. Each of these send their best to the Annual to bring glory to their gods through victory in the Great Game or simply to settle scores. Each nation has it’s own traditional costume, weapons and armour that players are strongly encouraged to adopt. Odyssey uses an exceptionally simple rule system to bring the world to life. A few simple choices are all that is required to create your character, choose your nation and your path and then you're ready to play. There is no advancement between events so all characters, new and old, are equally powerful.
We strive to achieve the very highest standards possible in LRP and encourage all our players to do likewise. We use metal coins for currency in all our games and for Odyssey the arena battles take place inside a purpose built gladiatorial arena with seating for hundreds of cheering onlookers. We are passionate about LRP and we want to do everything reasonable to ensure that you enjoy our events. We enjoy talking to players, so feel free to get in touch at any time whether you're new to LRP or have been playing for years.

Extending Deadlines and a Call for Content

The LARPing Times is still alive. I've not been able to update due to various other commitments but the project is still going and still looking for writers and articles.

To this end I'm extending the submission deadline to June 23rd to push back the first issue release date to July 1st. So if you have any ideas or requests for articles or would like to write something for the magazine then please contact me at: larpingtimes@gmail.com or put a comment on this blog.

Themeing

After some feedback from people interested in doing articles it seems that LARP is a little wide spread to just ask for articles about it. While it bodes well for not running out of topics we do have an problem with getting entries for each issue.

So I've decided to set a theme for the first episode, since this is just starting out I've gone for starting to LARP. Peoples experiences with their first event, where to go for new players, setting up new systems etc.

If you have a story to tell or are even just interested then leave a comment or drop an e-mail to larpingtimes@gmail.com

Deadlines

OK, we've had a good response from the community so far so I've decided to set a deadline and publishing date for the first edition of The LARPing Times.

The first edition will be released on June 1st, the cut off point for submissions is Sunday 15th of May. Anything coming in after midnight will have to be rolled over to the next edition.

The magazine will be available through an e-book download for free and a print-on-demand book through Lulu costing about £3 to cover printing costs. Both will be available from the same date.

I'm looking forward to reading your submissions.

A Beginning

"You should write a book or two and start a magazine,
Even if it never makes a dime"
- Jonathan Coulton

Welcome to LARPing Times, a newly started LARPing publication covering all aspects of the Live Action RolePlaying hobby. For those wondering what LARPing is have a look at Wikipedia.

The aim of this project is to produce an unbiased view on the LARPing passtime, including reviews of systems, where to buy kit, interviews and game running guides. There will be articles posted on this blog along with a regular publication available as a free download or a print-on-demand magazine.

All content will be copyrighted under a Creative Commons Attribution, non commercial, share-alike License. Meaning that anyone can share, remix and reproduce the articles so long as it's not for profit and credit is given. For more information have a look at the creative commons license site: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/3.0/

This is a community driven, non-profit publication. So what we really want is to get the community involved as much as possible. We're looking for any articles you want to send us on the topic of LARPing, be it how to make or repair your weapons, which systems you should go to, where to buy the best kit or anything else that comes to mind. We're also looking for cover art, general LARPing photo's and images to try and make it look as polished and professional as possible.

If you're interested, and you own the work or have the permission of those who do, then send your submissions to larpingtimes@gmail.com.
